Ordinarily, recap episodes face criticism by fans as a needless waste of time, or perhaps viewed as a necessity for shows in the era of episodic releases. This wasn't always the situation, though Avatar: The Last Airbender proved it through "The Ember Island Players," a cherished episode from its final season that is now receiving an exclusive Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop.

The full Secret Lair superdrop for the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender set was unveiled recently. This includes five separate collections, and although a set named "My Cabbages!" is an admittedly humorous tribute to the show's best background character, the remaining sets seem somewhat less imaginative, aside from one remarkable entry: "The Ember Island Players."

Drawing from installment 17 of the third season of the beloved series, this collector's drop features these specific cards:

• 1x Braid of Fire
• 1x Cursed Mirror
• 1x Mask of Memory
• 1x Thespian's Stage

What makes this segment remains memorable

Fans of the series clearly recall this episode, which served as a recap of the hero Aang and his companions' journey leading up to the conclusion. Different from other recap episodes, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" wasn't motivated from financial limitations or scheduling problems. The creators truly wanted to offer viewers a moment to revisit the overall plot, but they decided to do it creatively.

Throughout the segment, the heroes view a theatrical performance based on their adventures at a playhouse located on Ember Island, called The Boy in the Iceberg. The play itself is inaccurate, over-the-top, and utterly comical. It works as it plays with the heroes' understanding regarding their own identities, juxtaposing them against how the world (and particularly the antagonist nation) sees them. It has an ideal level of meta-commentary, and it results in perhaps the top rendition of Avatar available to date.

When it comes to cost-effectiveness, this represents an excellent Secret Lair due to one key factor: Braid of Fire. This card trades for $20 and $40 on various platforms currently, while for $29.99 you can snag the complete collection, or for $39.99 for the foil version.

Magic's Avatar: The Last Airbender set can be accessed during early access events on Nov. 14 and debuts internationally on Nov. 21.
