The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her final two events of the year because of a health issue she has been battling for the last week and a half.

At 22 years old had planned to participate in events in Asia but opted to return home to regain her health prior to beginning her preparations for 2026.

These plans are set to feature her coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals have decided to continue collaborating in 2026.

She required blood pressure checks during her first-round match versus Ann Li in Wuhan and retired when trailing 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.

Another medical visit was necessary medical attention at the recent Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in round one.

She was also playing noticeably restricted in the final set versus Zhu owing to the lower back problem that has affected her at times this year.

Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which she climbed into the international top 30 for the first time for the first time since 2022, ended with three successive defeats.

Raducanu had three match points then was defeated by Pegula in the third round in last month's Beijing event.

She secured 28 matches during 2025 and reached the semi-finals in the Washington tournament, but her standout performance was at the Miami Open in March.

Ranked first in Britain made the last eight of the WTA 1000 event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro during the tournament then falling in three sets to the world number four Pegula.

Her coach was Mark Petchey from Miami until Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role ahead of the US Open.

The original arrangement with the former trainer of Nadal was through the season's conclusion but they will keep working together, with a training block pencilled in for the end of the year.

Raducanu told that her three-day trial with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.

She nearly succeeded to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at the first competition with Roig in Cincinnati in August.

The coach also accompanied Raducanu in New York, where she made the third stage prior to losing to Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
