Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking official stated the incident rendered him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
