Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The last series concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."

Series Legacy
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
The BBC has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
