Supporters Urge Detainment of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are calling for that a individual who leaped a barricade and touched the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents indicated that he was due to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a performance. His Instagram feed features clips of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Grande's Well-being
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another response on Instagram.
Several attendees also criticised security officers at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals called for social media platforms to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Many of fans had assembled in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had waited for as long as eight hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on November 21, is the sequel of a dual version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 Oscar nominations, earning a pair for best costume and set decoration.
