One of the co-founders behind the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed that parent company the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction of an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that established the company with his partner, revealed how he plans to independently develop the controversial flavor as part of a personal series highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's was barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Founders versus Parent Company

This latest announcement intensifies the continuing conflict among the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods corporation that has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders maintain that Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Flavor as a Symbol of Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed via social media that he's developing an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, asking for public suggestions for naming options and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol of solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, that mirror those of the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism plus Current Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in areas occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company selling the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within disputed territories.

The new product line is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand that was first established several years back for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Changes plus Future Plans

The founder stated how he plans to create additional frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

This development follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, after decades of involvement, mentioning worries that its independence was undermined following corporate moves to curb its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen commented that “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart leads me to keep working inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles that established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
